Midnight Mayhem places players in an online environment where they must cooperate to confront an invisible entity with ever-changing abilities. Groups of 2 to 6 players face this asymmetrical threat, where collective action is the key to survival in the face of evolving danger. People must rely on each other to cope with the circumstances that arise.

The player controlling the monster in Midnight Mayhem has a set of 18 abilities that evolve over the course of each session, but their control over the next power to manifest is limited, requiring quick tactical moves. This predator operates from hidden places, seeking to hunt down and eliminate victims one by one before they can retaliate. Complete invisibility is granted in the shadows, making light a significant element of the encounters for the opposing sides.

Casual gamers use a set of 5 basic makeshift weapons and 6 different gadgets to detect, defend, and ultimately try to drive the creature out of one of 4 unique locations. Precautions include being cautious, maintaining light sources, and carefully examining dark areas. The game’s dynamics provide a choice between teaming up or brutally killing your comrades, a decision reinforced by proximity-based voice communication with spatial audio effects. Gameplay can be further diversified with 4 available modulators, and character appearances can be customized with 11 unlockable masks and 6 gestures.
